Location

About Javea

Javea (or Xàbia, in Valenciano) is one of the most beautiful towns on Alicante’s Costa Blanca. It is often referred to as the Jewel in the Costa Blance. In addition to the idyllic beaches and coves, it’s also home to Montgó Natural Park, Santi Antoni Marine Reserve, a 15th century fishing port, a long history, and truly wonderful food. Javea enjoys an outstanding climate almost all year round.

Javea is vaguely split into three definable areas: the historic Old Town, the port, and the Arenal.

If you want to travel back in time to the Middle Ages, just take a stroll through the streets of Javea’s Old Town. You’ll walk past walls that were built as a defence against pirate attacks and numerous buildings with fascinating architecture. Javea historical centre is a labyrinth of cobbled streets lined with little white houses trimmed with yellow and you’ll discover palaces and secular monuments to appreciate.

The Port as the name describes has become a popular area in its own right. Buy fresh catches from the fisherman as they return to port or enjoy some fabulous tapas in one of the many local bars and restaurants.

The Arenal is vibrant and full of life and lights! It is popular with people of all ages with a long promenade and white sand beach. Here you will find a vast array of bars, and restaurants, many with live music and DJs during the summer season. Boat rentals are available here and some smaller vessels can be rented without a licence. If you want something more luxurious you can always charter your own boat complete with a skipper for the day!

Recreation and Leisure

The local area offers a variety of water sports, including sailing, padel boarding, windsurfing, diving, fishing, rowing, and swimming.

For those who prefer land to sea, there is also an extensive range of activities to choose from including mountain climbing, hang-gliding, padel tennis, tennis mountain biking, and hiking.

Golf

Several golf courses nearby including Javea, La Sella, and La Fustera.

Eating out

You will find an incredible range of bars and restaurants to suit every taste within walking distance.

Excursions

It’s possible to take the ferry to the Balearic islands directly from the port in Denia plus there is a ferry that goes from Javea port to Denia for a different view of the beautiful coastline. There are also several waterparks near Benidorm which can be a fun day out for all the family.

We can also arrange chartered boat trips upon request.

Cuisine

The local cuisine of the area is typically that of the Costa Blanca, which combines delicacies from both land and the Mediterranean Sea. Many civilizations have lived in this area (Celts, Iberians, Greeks, Romans, Muslims), all of which have left their mark on gastronomy.

The diet in Denia is a healthy Mediterranean one; the Costa Blanca is rich in fish, vegetables, olive-oil, rice and fruit, and the ingredients are all used to prepare delicious, healthy dishes, such as Paella Valenciana, Arroz Negro (black rice), Arroz al horno (Oven baked rice), Arroz a banda (fish and rice stew), Arroz del Señoret (Prince’s rice).

Aside from seafood, typical dishes include succulent lamb chops, rabbit in garlic, roast leg of lamb with garlic and fresh rosemary, and home made sausages and black puddings.

If you have a sweet tooth then you will enjoy the local homemade pastries and deserts that the whole region is famous for. Or Jijona ice-cream (Nougat), which is made with the almonds of the region.

Whilst in the area we recommend you try the local wine selection on offer, especially Jalon wine which is of high quality with a lovely bouquet.

There are many international restaurants in the town offering a wide choice of different cuisines from around the world.

Climate

This area enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate, with cool sea breezes in summer and protection by surrounding mountains against the cold North winds in winter. The area averages nearly 3,000 hours of sunshine each year and the average temperature easily exceeds 20 degrees.

In 1986 the World Health Organisation recommended the climate of the area as one of the most equitable in the world – neither too hot in the summer nor too cold in the winter. On average it can boast 325 sunny days each year making it an ideal all year round destination.
